About ALAS
In 2024, alongside my wife Ashleigh—whose sharp tasting and marketing talents complement my winemaking—we launched our own family wine project. With our two little ones “helping” along the way, we’re building something personal and bold, grounded in passion, precision, and curiosity. ALAS VINI.
This is just the beginning of our journey—one bottle, one vintage at a time.
ALAS WINEMAKER - ALBERTO GIUSTI
Born and raised in Verona, Italy, a region known for Amarone, Valpolicella Ripasso, Soave, and Custoza, Alberto Giusti didn’t come from a winemaking family—but his passion was ignited early, helping his grandfather, Angelo, bottle homemade wine from a damigiana.
Driven by a love for science, he earned a degree in Viticulture and Enology from the University of Verona in 2014. His career began in 2007 at Zýmē in Valpolicella under Celestino Gaspari, a protégé of Giuseppe Quintarelli, where he developed his foundation in winemaking.
In 2013, he took on the role of winemaker at Tenuta Chiccheri, where he collaborated with Franco Bernabei and Massimo Gigola, who introduced him to traditional method sparkling wine. He expanded his technical expertise in 2015 at Vassanelli Lab, focusing on wine analysis and quality control.
In 2017, seeking broader horizons, he moved to Napa Valley for a harvest internship at the famed Realm Cellars where he worked under legendary Cult winemaker Benoit Touquette who taught him that greatness lies in the smallest details and to continually strive for perfection even after you reach your goal.
That vintage—defined by catastrophic wildfires—was quite literally a trial by fire, but his commitment never wavered and he discovered a deeper conviction: winemaking wasn’t just a career—it was a calling.
The Giusti Family Crest
Our logo is inspired by the Giusti family crest—a symbol that connects us to a piece of forgotten history. Years ago, my father, with help from a friend at the Italian Parliament, dug into our family’s past and uncovered records suggesting that the Giusti family once held nobility and owned a castle somewhere in Tuscany.
Over the centuries, fortunes faded, and branches of the family moved across northern Italy, leaving behind only fragments of that legacy. Much of the story was lost—but a few traces survived in an old archive, along with the family crest.
Today, that crest is all we have—and honestly, it’s more than enough. It became the perfect inspiration to build our brand: rooted in heritage, guided by curiosity, and shaped by a sense of identity worth rediscovering.
